It seems like every few days we hear news reports on cybersecurity incidents or ransomware attacks to organizations. The ones that make the headlines are usually big businesses. What you don’t hear about are the 43% of attacks on smaller organizations with under 500 employees.
Today we will challenge the most common objections we often get regarding cybersecurity services.
I’m too small for hackers to worry about
Every business has valuable data. Even smaller companies get attacked, and due to their size, may never recover from a breach or ransomware attack. In fact, nearly 81% of businesses have suffered a cyberattack. Often, it’s not a specific targeted attack by a hacker or organization. The breach is caused by a computer bot/program searching for vulnerabilities or an unsuspecting team member who clicked on a malicious link.
Cybersecurity services are too expensive
Understandably, adding cybersecurity services to an already stretched budget can be tough. However, investing in cybersecurity is a fraction of the cost of recovery from a cyberattack. On average, every dollar spent on proactive cybersecurity can save $10 in lost revenue from a breach, reputational damage, or worse. What would the cost be to your business should it be shut down as the result of an attack or ransomware threat?
My IT guy has me covered
Most IT support providers generally cover management of the computers, network, infrastructure, and helpdesk support. Many offer extended solutions for security, however these require additional licenses and training. No single person has the know-how or time to be sure all their clients are fully secure. It’s imperative that you partner with a responsive, experienced IT security team. That being said, responsibility doesn’t end with your IT provider. Educate your team on proper password policies. Initiate end-user phishing training for everyone in your organization. Have policies in place for devices on home/remote networks that would connect to your organization’s network.
With cyberattacks and ransomware on the rise, cybersecurity services are a must-have for every organization. Constant education is necessary to improve cyber resilience. An estimated 97% of employees, across a wide variety of industries, are unable to recognize a sophisticated phishing email. That being the case, reducing your company’s risk of a phishing disaster through security awareness and phishing training should be a first start.
